Best Restaurants in Pokhara (2026): Lakeside to Local
Pokhara eats differently from Kathmandu. The Valley argues about achar. Pokhara argues about thakali sets, lake-view breakfasts, and which Lakeside lane hides the real food behind the tourist menus.
This is the guide for both trips: the visitor who landed yesterday and the local who never left Lakeside. Seven kitchens, priced as of October 2026, each with its reason.
Rudra Thakali Cuisine, Lakeside
The thakali to beat in Pokhara. A 4.7 rating across hundreds of reviews, and the reviews agree on specifics: creamy dal you could drink, fresh chicken gravy, refills that arrive before you ask. Travelers who ate thakali across a month in Nepal call this the favorite.
Order the chicken thakali set. Veg and dhido sets are equally serious. Budget Rs 400 to 600. The room looks unremarkable from outside. Walk in anyway.
Nanglo Thakali Bhancha Ghar, Lakeside
The other heavyweight, same 4.7 territory. Proper copper-plate thakali: dal, bhat, gundruk, seasonal sabzi, pickle, papad, ghee ladled on top. Open late, which matters on nights when the lake walk runs long.
Fresh Elements, Street No. 16 Lakeside
Nearly 2,700 reviews at 4.6, the most-reviewed independent restaurant in Lakeside. Minimal oil, no added MSG, filtered-water vegetables, and a menu spanning Nepali, continental, Indian, and Italian. Rosemary chicken has its own fan club. The rare Lakeside place both tourists and nutrition-conscious locals recommend without hedging.
MoM's Cafe and Bar, Baidam
The momo answer in Pokhara. Chilli chicken momo is the famous order; vegetarians get proper paneer and veg options, not afterthoughts. Cooking is fresh, so waits run long at peak hours. Worth it. Rs 120 to 200 a plate keeps it the cheapest dinner on this list.
Asian Tea House, Baidam
Down the alley off the main road, behind a signboard most people walk past. A 4.8-rated local canteen: hot chai with regulars in the afternoon, momo for Rs 200, dal bhat that costs less than your boat rental. This is the "hidden gem" other guides promise and rarely deliver.
Lakeside sekuwa stalls, after 5pm
Nepal's answer to barbecue. Buffalo, chicken, or pork marinated and grilled over charcoal, served with chiura and tomato chutney. The grills along the promenade fire up around 5pm; follow the smoke. Rs 100 to 200 a plate, eaten standing, lake ten steps away.
Tibetan kitchens, north Lakeside
The northern end of Lakeside holds the Tibetan community kitchens: thukpa, sha phaley, butter tea for Rs 80 to 150. Family recipes, no performance. After a day of paragliding or a bus ride from Kathmandu, thukpa here fixes everything.
The Lakeside rules
Walk one or two lanes back from the main strip and the same quality costs 20 to 30 percent less. Set meals (thakali, thali) beat ordering separate dishes on value every time. And the lake-view premium is real: you are paying for the sunset, not the food. Fine, once. Not nightly.
Combine this with our Kathmandu food guide for the full trip, then review your Pokhara regular on Bharosilo with the dish, the price, and the hour. Lakeside runs on tourist reviews. Write the useful one.
